Understanding Donald J. Trump

The first thing to understand about Trump is that he was brought up to not respect the truth. Lying came naturally in his family and was respected as a means to an end.

What Trump says should not be considered to be what he believes but rather seen as a first bargaining chip. His threats regarding the Suez canal, making Canada a state, annexing Greenland, renaming the Gulf of Mexico, and tariffs are ideas put forward by some of his craziest colleagues (he has no friends only temporary allies) and are intended to put himself in a powerful bargaining position with Canada, Mexico, Denmark, and NATO nations.

What does he actually want and thinks he can legally force is not an issue. He wants the press to publicize his belligerence in order to increase the support of those who want a more imperialistic national policy.
